Ultrasonic slitting

Ultrasonic slitting is a technique to slit without fraying or heat warping materials. By producing ultrasonic sound waves a extremely precise slit is being made. The vibrations result in a very local frictional heat. Enough to stop fraying by sealing the slit edges, but not so much to give the material a chance to warp.

The technology

The frequency of ultrasound is around 30 kHz and is therefore can’t be heard by most people. The ultrasonic slitting machines of Slittech generate sound by means of piezo-electric elements. The most effective form of generating sound waves for cutting applications.
